Go to linux.org and click on "Distributions" on the left side of the page, on the next page there are three drop-down menus to help you get a distro that will work.
In the first menu, choose your preferred language, in the category menu choose whatever (main stream, Debian based, Red Hat based) I suggest Red Hat based but you can go with any selection here, in the platform menu choose Intel compatible and click go. Choose any one of the distributions that show up on the next page.
Generally your computer is no different than any other Intel arch., the Mac part only has to do with the Operating System it came with.
