Linux Disk Defragger .... ?
Does one exist and if so, what is it called?
... or do you even need one in linux? |
Don't need one in Linux.. asked all the time, search for more answers just like this one with more details..
|
It isn't manual, the ext3 filesystem just keeps quite defragemnted itself
|
Is there a defrag util for FAT partitions? How about optimizing? I'll put any responses into the LQ wiki, that way we can provide a link the next time someone asks this.

have tried the following address but, unable to read: ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/linux/syst...ag-0.70.tar.gz
can you please help? Jim |
You can try a web search (e.g., dogpile, google, excite, etc.) for "linux defrag".
There are plenty of them out there. !This is NOT a testimonial! I have not used any of them. |
I've never defragged a linux ext2/3 drive in the 10 years of using it... You hear different strories on this sort of thing. Keep a little headroom on the ext2/3 partition and it will look after itself.

Thank you for the help.
