Linux Device/Firewall?

Hi, I don't actually run Linux but I recently read an article (or advertisement, possibly) about a device that was an external firewall that you connect between your modem/router and computer, that is basically a small Linux computer.

I can't remember what it's called, I keep wanting to say 'Groggie' or something. I've searched around and cannot find it. The ad/article I read was in Popular Science, I think. Is anyone familiar with this product, and if so, does it work well?

I see that there are a lot of knowledgeable people in this forum, and based on your experience, do you think this would be a good thing to use? I have Vista/IE7 right now.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I'm unsure of the particular brand that you saw, but indeed mini-linux hardware firewalls are not at all uncommon. In theory, a hardware firewall provides better protection than a software firewall, and given that you run Vista, which (someone correct me if I'm wrong) more or less shut out third party firewalls, it couldn't hurt. I'll never trust an MS security product, so a hardware firewall could be beneficial.

Found It!

Thank you for your response, PatrickNew. I found the product I was looking for thanks to your reply, it gave me some new ideas to search for it. http://yoggie.com if anyone is interested.

Still open to opinions and information on such a product, so again, thanks for any future assistance!
