Linux compatible All-in-One [Kodak]
Hello folks, I'm really hoping you can help me. I'm very new to Linux [last Sept] & haven't a clue where to look for help. The tech who installed Linux is no longer available to answer questions... and his assistant answers in such high tech language he might as well be speaking Punjabi to me.
Anyway, my dilemma is I'm running Linux/Ubuntu [I don't even know where to look to find out the version I'm running] with Firefox 3.0.7. I currently have an Epson C86 [basic printer] and would like to upgrade to an ALL-IN-ONE... Kodak has one I like... the Easyshare 5100 model# 1641877. However, I can't seem to find reliable information as to whether it's compatible with Linux... and believe me, I've looked, so much so... my eyes are crossing! Please help. Thanks for your time! A quick look using "EASYSHARE 5100" cups (or ppd) as a search pattern shows that there is no cups driver for linux. There seems to be a .ppd file for Mac OS X if you fancy hacking that but other than that the solution is to avoid Kodak. Brother, Xerox and HP (among many others) are quite well supported.

It is classified as "Paperweight" ... absolutely non-functional:
http://openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=Kodak Search for supported printers at that site. I recommend HP if you want all-in-one printers. |
Yeah HP is good in supporting Linux. I do have a very old/basic all-in-one model that runs out of the box in Ubuntu.
