Question Linux Buzz Words Questions.


There are so many Buzzwords related to Linux that I have never heard in windows. For eg., Like Kernel, GNU, etc., etc., Where can I leanr what these are ? Is there a site ? Please share it. Thanks.

I will certainly consider google.

However, I was wondering if there was a single site that can assist in this. Need not be too much. Just the basic 20 to 50 words. Thanks.

Well, The Linux Documentation Project (http://www.tldp.org/ ?) might have explainations at the start of each HOWTO.

Check out a few links in my sig, check www.linux.org their tutorial (linux 101) and you can also search the board, as on occasion, these words are discussed.

Click on the link he posted [bookmark it] and look at section 5. Commands.

A buzzword is a word that sounds important, but doesnt mean anything.

GNU is an actual organization,
the Linux kernel is an actual kernel

Jargon! And, speaking of, try finding the Jargon Files online. That helps with a lot of terminology and more. And I have to make another plug for 'wtf' - your system may have it or you may be able to install it. It's part of Slack's BSD games. You could just grep the file, but I still love it.
