I've installed RH Linux 7.0 in a friend's computer shop 'coz we're sick and tired of NT's acting as Internet Gateway and always crashes. What I need to know is how can I be able to use the Linux box act as internet gateway to other windoze machines? PPP is already setup and can browse in the server alone. (He's using only DUN to connect to the ISP.) I also included in rc.local the command to ip masq :

echo "1" /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

when i check ip forwarding:
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward it returns 1.

any help, please?

Presumably you typed the echo command wrong.. should involve a '>'... seems to work tho..

You need to set up IP masquarading with ip chains. My rc.local file contains...

/sbin/ipchains -A forward -i ppp0 -j MASQ
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

under RH71. You should also be able to permanently enable ip forwarding by setting the parameter in /etc/sysctl.conf instead of the using the echo command.

Sorted, respect due!
