Linux application above the X Window top and bottom Panels
 

I am using Redhat Linux Enterprise 5.7 with a HMI(Human Machine Interface) product called GL Studio. It essentially builds an application using Open GL. I can build the application and it runs but it doesn't cover the top and bottom panels of the X Window.

I tried using wmctrl and I can make it above all the rest of the open windows but it still does not draw above the top and bottom panels.

Any ideas?

i don't know much about redhat and nothing about the software you mention, but generally this is a task for the window manager. and X is not a window manager, confusingly.
or do you mean your app enters some sort of fullscreen state, but the panels are still visible?

in any case, tell us what desktop environment you're using, that usually answers the question of the window manager and the panels, too.

I thought X just has the right-click mouse options, although you can create a dripdown menu, which will show at top left-hand corner of screen, althoygh movable.

Usually the control panels are identified as "always on top", thus they never get covered up.

Thanks for your quick reply's. I have found a solution to the problem utilizing the GL Studio program. It was necessary to create a RSO container to put the application into. This RSO container can then change to a full screen and cover the top and bottom panels.

While your comments were good, the always on top option will not cover the top and bottom panels on the desktop.
