I was just downloading an antivirus program for a Windows machine and on the download site I saw a Linux option. I was under the impression Linux didn't need any antivirus... Anybody have any insights or opinions?
This has been asked many times. In short, there are no (or only a couple) Linux viruses. The only one I can think of needed root access to do any real damage. However, if you serve files to a Windows client, whether via email or a share, you should install an anti virus option to protect the Windows clients.

Is this a virus?
Hi,
I've been experiencing situations where the cursor goes crazy on my Fedora Core 5 PC, where I lose control of the mouse and it starts opening programs that have not been selected. Is there a hardware fault that can do this, or have I contracted on of those rare Linux viruses? If it is a virus, what is the best way to deal with it? I've tried installing Panda A/V, but have not been able to access updates. The initial Panda scan (pavcl / -nbr) did not reveal anything unusual, but as it was not the most up to date version of the program it might have missed something.

I don't know if it's the same thing, but I've had exactly what you described happen in both Windows and Linux. The cursor would just go crazy and random files and programs would open. In my case, it turned out to be a bad mouse that I was using with my KVM switch and it was affecting everything plugged into it. Changed the mouse and everything was fine.
do you have a kvm switch 2 or 4 port , i found i have the same problem going mad and opening files,i found the best way is unplug the mouse from the switch then re-plug it back in and it works a treat. On the other hand i have the same switch on my windows server and the caps lock light stays on so i do the same with that unplug and replug it ,i don't know if this a fault with the kvm switchs.
