Linux and Youtube

Hey everyone, Af73rSh0ck here. I'm a fresh user to the linux community and just downloaded Fedora 9 a few nights ago. My friend said I should try this forum site for any questions I might have. So, that said, how come Youtube videos work, but not the audio? I tried turning up my speakers, adjusting the volume, and updating my system. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Have a look at this page
I googled for "fedora 9 flash no sound"
http://clunixchit.blogspot.com/2007/...sh-videos.html

Best of luck,

Drew, thanks for the suggestion, but I still have no audio.

hey Aftershock,

In Fedora 9, you might want to go to the menu:
System > Preferences > Hardware > Sound

In there, under tab "Devices" (which should be active right away):
Use "ALSA - Advanced Linux Sound Architecture" on every playback.

Restart your computer (easiest way) and next time your Flash should work just fine.

That's how I solved mine anyway, keep me updated ^^

The first thing we need to know is if the audio works in other places (i.e. playing mp3, cds, regular non-flash movies, etc. etc.).

Oh crap, I completely forgot. If you're using Fedora 9 (default), then you'd be using pulseaudio server as the sound server.

Well, in that case, you must install a library called "libflashsupport". To do that, as root, issue the following command line:

yum install libflashsupport

After that, sound should be working ^^

Just a personal opinion, I don't really like PulseAudio at the moment, I think it still has a lot of problems, I'd still rather stick with Alsa. But... that's entirely your choice.

Good luck, mate!
