Linux and DivX
How does DivX perform under Linux? Can I expect any performance betterment in converting my Windows P3 to a Linux machine?

superbly. definitley. http://mplayerhq.hu if you're after high qualitry playback on a low end system, use mplayer, you don't even need a windowing system running to play it back if you want to free up more cpu space. runs in erm... "Dos" if you're not familiar with Linux at all yet. also bloody good at ripping DVD's too, and playing nearly any media format you can think of.

Thanks, I can't wait to set up my system. BTW I am thinking about making it dual boot, could I place the movies on something like shared FAT volume?
|
yep, no problem. just don't use ntfs.
|
perfect! thanks

Don't forget to give Xine a try!

*cough* xine sucks *cough*
|
You MUST be kidding acid_kewpie!
Xine is the best! Are you drunk?:tisk: Why don't you like Xine? Xine is fast, and supports alot of media types... Oh, Did I mention that Xine rules? |
Copying Chris :
*cough* xine sucks big time *cough* |
Xine is fast, and supports alot of media types...
mplayer is faster, and supports more media types, auto and video outputs and has a better sense of humour. |
OK, I'll retry mplayer another time...
|
I must admit that mplayer is better than xine...
But that doesn't mean Xine sucks, I just means than mplayer is better. |
