Linux 9.0 Mandrake installing on laptops

Down the road, I want to get a laptop or notebook computer. But, the company (Micron) who sells them has WinXP pre-installed on it and I want to install Linux 9.0

Do I need to first un-install WindowsXP or could I just install it by inserting the CD-Rom?

And my main concern is space. Please help.

k linux requires at least 3gigs afaik

if u can take 3gig from the xp, u can install linux without deleting xp.

get partition magic and resize your xp ,
and put your cd in, then linux will take care of everything else.

u might want to research little bit how u will partition linux if your linux will be bigger than 5gigs

good luck

RE: XP size

My XP right now has about 53.8GB hard drive. Is that enough to add on linux to it?

yes enough if you are willing to decrease windows partition size
assuming 53.8gig is your entire hard disk,
u want to shirink the window partition(say 40gig) so that u can install linux on the left 13.8 gig

my 30 gig hard drive partition layout is like this
windows C 5 gig
windows D(fat32) 2gig
linux 23gig

as you can seperate windows C/D
you can sperate linux into many partitions
