Linux 86_64-8 core cpu vs 2 quard core cpu

Dear All,

I am designing Linux 86_64 kernel 2.6 oracle(11.2.0.4) DWH server
RAM-52GB,Swap-32GB,HDD 2TB and CPU-8

1)On CPU architectural design which will be more efficient and effective in performance Adding single 8 core or adding 2 quard core cpu?

2)How can i efficiently utilise all CPU's without high CPU bottleneck

3)And also please help in calculating kernel values(sem, shmax, min, mal and hugepage values.

Thanks,
Shobana

1. Probably 2 quad cores, but you are not talking huge improvements.

2. Build 2 servers,or use two motherboards for fewer bottlenecks:-) . With a PC, bottlenecks are a fact of life. You're right to try to minimise, though. Spec your motherboard and disk setup well, network cards, etc.

3. You shouldn't be taking figures from us but choosing and knowing why you chose what you did. You need the study under your belt. You know what you're running. We don't.
