What is a best way and cheapest way to learn linux and linux adminstration?

Tinkster 03-13-2008 02:50 PM

You tell us, you're the expert ;D

No, seriously: just start using it.

Tink

Cheapest? I haven't spent a single penny on learning Linux, I just use it. Constantly trying new things, breaking nearly everything then fixing it.

RUTE Is a good place to start.

There are several online books and guides. Check out 'Linux Books & Online Magazines' for several.

This link and others are available from 'Slackware-Links' .

Boy, do I know what I'm going to quote next time some thoughtless user complains about a lack of Linux documentation!

Seriously, there is a strong argument that you'll learn most by just doing it. And, on the other hand, there is an argument for actually understanding the basics of what you do, so you are not just doing it badly; this seems to imply reading stuff (See above list! But also your local bookshop will allow you to wander around and test drive some books to see which ones you like! And most of the O'Reilly stuff is good if you like 'background' rather than just 'cookbook', although they have 'cookbooks' too. And other publishers exist.)

I don't think "(s)he"'ll come back to read ;}

Spewed out 5 posts in various forums in 4 minutes, placing an
add in the last and didn't sign back in ever since. Bot, maybe? :D

Sick of bot posting problems from a different forum verbatim on LQ
in irrelevant boards. Banning the thing and closing the threads.
