Question Linpus Linux X Window 9.5 First Time Linux Help

Hello All,

This is my first time trying out Linux in general.

I went for the Acer Aspire Revo R3700 with pre-installed Linpus Linux X Window 9.5.

Since I've only ever used Windows before hand this is all very much so new to me. I'd like to say I have some knowledge of Linux, but I don't. I have about an hour's worth of playing around with it.

I would like to setup a user that can read/write to removable media (I can only do that via the root login at the moment). I'll be honest and say the user groups and the login shell lost me...

I'd love to install wine, but I'm not sure how. I've looked at the winehq site but I struggled to find out how really. So if someone could tell me where I can install it from and point me to a guide (an idiots guide would be most likely the greatest help at the moment. And would this work with my none root account too?

My home network is mainly running windows machines. Is there a nice and easy way to copy data through the network between my Revo, and my Windows 7 laptop?

And lastly how do I stop my system always logging in as root? I would like it to bring up either the login screen or my none root account.

Apologies for the pop quiz, if you need anymore information from me please let me know.

Kindest Regards

Tom

In general on "linpus light" you can not install software .
the manufacture , for some unknown and idiotic reason, thinks that no one would want to install anything on it .

you will need to do a larg amount of learning .
Start with the aspireoneuser forum
http://www.aspireoneuser.com/
http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/v...bf509e5c63fc1d
http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=5

but most people DO NOT consider Linpus light to be a real OS
( most peg it as the #1 worsted or DEAD LAST in the top 1,000,000 list .)
installing Ubuntu or MintLinux is often the best option .

Would you happen to know how to install Ubuntu on Linpus?

I've checked they're website, and their only install options are for Windows, Mac and Ubuntu.

Which one would I copy the iso to my usb drive?

Kind Regards

Tom

Linpus light is the operating system NOT the computer.

a computer running Windows 7 is not a "windows 7 computer "
it is a computer running win7
