Linpus--found mozilla plugins folder, copied libflashplayer.so there, still no update
It turned out that the mozilla plugins folder is called "ln7gsmwv.default" on my machine. I copied libflashplayer.so from flashplayer 10 in Downloads to this folder, using the right-click menu.
These steps were taken under the advice of several members, and I thank them for getting me this far.
However, after restarting Firefox, and checking my flashplayer version at:
I still have version 9.
Do I have any remaining options?
try make symlink to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
and reload your browser
You'll need to make a symbolic link (as root) in the /etc/alternatives/ directory that refers back to the libflashplayer.so file.
Somewhat like this:-
sudo ln -s libflashplayer.so /etc/alternatives/libflashplayer.so
If the non-free flash was installed by default from the repositories, that will first need to be removed with synaptic.
What does "non-free flash" mean? What is "installed by default?" What are the "repositories"? What is "synaptic" and how can it be used to remove something?
