Linplus network printer problem

Just purchased an Acer Aspire One with Linplus Lite. I have got the Acer to recognize the network and printer (which is a HP 930c) and when I click print on th eAcer it acts like it is sending th job to the network but nothing happens at the network printer. This is my first experience with Linux and I have no clue.

Linpus

How did you install the printer? eg a printer setup utility, or maybe a browser using localhost:631.
As part of the setup, you would have entered an IP address for the printer. In a terminal**, try to ping that IP address.

**Playing with one of these in a store, I could not find the terminal. Then I read (here at LQ) that it is accessible thru the file manager.

I have a window which reads smb//IP(server){ort}/printer
I know the ip address but getting the port is a problem I have no idea.

What we need to know is which printer setup utility you are using. For example, many people prefer to use the web interface (localhost:631 in a browser). Otherwise, are you using the printer utility in the menus?

If I use the web interface, I am presented with a list of available network printers (with IP addresses) After selecting one of these, the next choice is the driver. There is no decision to make relative to a port.

I tried localhost:631 and I get 404 Not Found as a response.

That would mean that CUPS was not installed or not running.

Open a terminal** and try these:
ps -e|grep cups This will show is cups is running
ls /usr/lib|grep cups Tells you if CUPS is installed

If cups is installed but not running, enter "cupsd" (no quotes) and then try localhost:631 in the browser again.

Does the Acer documentation say anything about how to install a printer?

**I never found the terminal when playing with one of these, but I saw a post that it appears in the file manager window.

I found my answer at this site:
This is a step by step instruction how to utilize samba in the Acer printer installer. For the linux ignorant (me) it was perfect and I recommend it to all Aspire one users who are new to linux
Thank you for your help.
