Linksys Wireless G-USB Version 4 and Ubuntu 8.04
Hello all,
I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on a desktop PC that has Linksys Wireless G USB adapter. The "default" Ubuntu driver does a good job of detecting the adpater and even connecting to my LAN, but my signal strenth is much lower than it was on XP, and browsing/download speeds are so slow that Firefox almost always times out. I checked IWCONFIG and it is running at 54 Mb like it should be. I've read in other threads about using NDISWRAPPER to use Windows drivers instead, but how do I get those to override the shoddy Ubuntu druvers. Of course ultimately I would like to find the fix for the native Linux drivers or somebody to tell me where I can get good ones. I am a Linux newb, so go easy on me! Thanks in advance... |
I have had the Linksys WUSB54G version 1 & 2.
I had much better results using the ndiswrapper method with those adapters, on both slackware & ubuntu 8.04. Just blacklist the default drivers and they wont load. Good luck. |
