Link on desktop

I'm not having much luck creating a link on desktop -

my first attempt was one for simutrans, which lies deep down in my directory structure .

Right clicked on desktop, on the execute tab, I browsed down to the simutrans directory and clicked the executable. However, it still won't run. I get a report that Simutrans couldn't launch.

Any ideas? Run as terminal doesn't seem to work either. The screen flashes quickly, as though something is running, and then back to desktop.

However, I can run it fine from terminal (and it's a great prog).

How do you run it from the console?
Do you decend into simutrans directory and run it from there, or you just type the executable's name and it runs?

I have to go descend as you say, in to the simutrans directory and then run it from there.

However, with the link, I browse the full path so that it should be run from there.

create a script file like this

#!/bin/sh
cd /path/to/program/

./programname &

chmod it to 755 for all users
chmod 755 scriptname

put it in your shortcut target
