limiting samba access

Dear All,

I want to limit access to samba shares, for ex

folder1 should be accessed by all the user of group1,and (which is the sub folder in folder1)subfolder1 can be accessed by all the users of group2.

I have tried to do this by adding valid users=@group1 for folder1 in smb.conf file,it allows me to enter folder1 by asking for username and password, but subfolder1 opens directly without asking for username and password.

Please let me know if there is any way to do this.

In short ,I want to limit access to the folder .

With regards,
Keerti

Hi -

First, you really need to be using Samba 3 (if you're not already).

Second, read these (most excellent!) articles by Mick Bauer, who writes the monthly security column ("Paranoid Penguin") for Linux Journal:

'Hope that helps .. PSM
