LILO problem
 

Hi,

I've got an issue which I believe is a LILO issue, and I wonder if anybody can help...

A few weeks ago, I updated my Red Hat 6.2 system to 7.2. The update generally went fine, except that when I now boot from my hard drive (as I normally used to) I get many errors which ~seem~ to be due to LILO not recognizing/loading the correct kernel.

If I boot from a boot floppy, everything goes fine: the correct kernel is recognized/loaded and I don't have any errors.

I had thought the problem was due to my /etc/lilo.conf perhaps not being correct/updated.

Sure enough, when I checked /etc/lilo.conf, I found the following line:
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-5.0
which I then changed to:
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.7-10

Btw: When I check my /boot directory, all of the files seem to correspond to the correct 2.4.7-10 version (e.g., initrd-2.4.7-10.img, kernel.h-2.4.7, module-info-2.4.7-10, System.map-2.4.7-10, vmlinuz-2.4.7-10, etc.)

But what surprises me is that now, even once I seem to have correctly updated my /etc/lilo.conf file, the correct kernel, etc. still does not appear to load when I boot normally from my hard drive.

Does anybody know why? (I think this is something very simple, but I'm not sure what.)

I simply had to run /sbin/lilo to update my changes from /etc/lilo.conf
