Question LILO not installed

I was pretty sure I had installed LILO when i was installing Red Hat 8, but when i boot up the comp, it does not go into a bootloader and loads WinXp straight away.

How can i change this?

I am guessing I cannot create a boot disk on another machine and use it here.

Can you suggest another way to load linux?

Thanks

I have an 80Gb hardrive partitioned as follows 40Gb - Windows - 20Gb Windows - Extension and 15Gb - Linux and 1Gb - Swap.

Someone told me that because my Linux partition is after a certian cylinder number, the BIOS cannot read it? Is this true? Help me out fellas

LILO has some issues with booting from hard drives on older machines where the boot information resides above the 1024th cylinder. If you have a Windows (or other OS) partition that extends beyond the 1024th cylinder, and your machine uses an older BIOS, you may have problems booting.

An exerpt from one of the tutorials i was reading, but as far as your problem goes, sorry i have no clue.
