It is not clear from your post what your problem is.
If you are lacking a boot dist and your problem requires you to reboot your system so you can edit your configuration files, then I suggest downloading and burning a Knoppix CD. This will boot to Linux graphical environment, allowing you to remount your partitons as RW, and even chrooting into your HDD environment if necessary to fix your HDD's MBR (Master Boot Record) if that is where your problem lies.
First step is to identify what part of the boot process or system operation is displaying the error.
