I have installed win98 and damn small linux on an old laptop. When i did the hd install of DSL i chose LILO for a boot loader. Now when i boot i get both options but the win98 option doesnt do anything the laptop hangs. Is this a lilo.conf thing? i havent looked at it yet but wondered if anyone had any thoughts. Is it possible for me to change to grub now that i already used lilo?

Try repairing the LILO installation by booting DSL and typing, as root, liloconfig. Use the Simple mode, rather than Expert. See where that gets you. Did you partition with a boot partition? If s it should be the first partition on your drive, called /boot. IF and ONLY IF you have a boot partition, install LILO to "Sector." Otherwise, put it on the MBR. Do you have a floppy drive? Install LILO to a floppy too, if you can , so that in the worst case scenario you can reinstall 98 to repair its loader without losing access to your DSL installation.

I'll try liloconfig and install to MBR (I have no boot part.) partition on hd are as follows:
hda1 Primary fat32-win98 bootable
hda3 Primary - Linux
hda5 Logical - Linux Swap

Not sure why they are numbered that way, but thats how cfdisk wrote them.

Well, I am further then I was because the first dsl install stopped when i said yes to a bootloader and never asked for grub or lilo... it just went blank.
