lftp: Delaying before reconnect

I'm just trying to play around with FTP synchronization and the notes i'm reading says use lftp.

here's what i'm getting:

test2@ubuntu:~/Documents/temp2$ lftp hanz@
lftp hanz@> ls
[Delaying before reconnect: 57]
i turned debugging on and got:

lftp hanz@> ls
---- Connecting to ( port 21
**** Socket error (Connection refused) - reconnecting
---- Closing control socket

Can somebody please tell me how to go about fixing it? i'm not sure why i'm getting the socket error. i have entered the correct password.

can somebody give me a beginners guide on how i can set up ftp server locally and use lftp?

i'd really appreciate any advice.
