Leave X session

I know there was a command to leave the X session, but I forgot what it was.....

Hi Khaaan,

can you elaborate on what you mean, try to achieve?

Loging out of a WM? Kill the X server alltogether?

Cheers,
Tink

I just want to leave the WM to go to the console so I can load XPde. Nothing permanent, though.

A reasonably distro-independent way of doing that
should be:
init 1

Sez: command not found

Would it help to say I am in Mdk 10?

Tinkster 07-05-2004 09:37 PM

Did you try as root, or as normal user?
If init doesn't work, try telinit ...

Tink

I tried those as root, and wasn't what I expected.... I tried "startx" but didn't get me back to X. Whatever it was, I know that startx got me back into the GUI.

init 5 would do this in this case ...

As for the distro: there's soooo many different
distro's out there, with fairly varied ways of setting
X up, that it's actually alost impossible to guess how
to definitely terminate X. Killing kdm (gdm, xdm) first,
and then doing Ctrl-Alt-Bskp MAY get you to a prompt.
On other distro's it may not.

Tink

OTOH, it may have been on an older version of Mdk, or when I had RH on it.
