the RUTE book is GREAT

a bit old but VERY USEFUL !!!!

Be aware, if you are using systemd, a lot of old info will be obsolete, likely you will have to refer to man systemd for info.

could you explain the link:
in particular "lmddgtfy.net" and "%"

I'm especially interested in the "%" as it seems to mean different things in different contexts.
