Learn Linux Command Line?

hi guys

since it looks like my job lately is having a lot of scripting and I am pretty novice to it

I was searching for some books to learn command and to build scripts (if - case - and so on)
I found 3 books

Beginning the Linux Command Line
http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-Linu.../dp/1430218894

Pro Bash Programming: Scripting the GNU/Linux Shell
http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Bash-Progr.../dp/1430219971

Beginning Portable Shell Scripting: From Novice to Professional
http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-Port.../dp/1430210435

which one do you recommend me? have you read them? are they any good? any other book or resource?

thanks a lot

I've found Learning the bash Shell by Newham & Rosenblatt to be helpful in my quest to learn better shell scripting, still working through the book so I can't comment on it's completeness. I've also got my eye on the Bash Cookbook as well.

I think your best bet would be to give yourself a set of goals (i.e. some applications/scripts to write to accomplish something cool/useful) and trudge through accomplishing them.

You will learn far more from trial and error than from any book.

You need trial and error AND books AND Google searches----the only question might be : "in what order?"

One very good resource: http://tldp.org ... Get the Bash Guide for Beginners

Just use the free stuff on the net; there's loads

http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz
http://tldp.org/LDP/Bash-Beginners-G...tml/index.html
http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/

If you read (learn) those 3 you'll know more than most
