Open a console and enter "skype" (no quotes) - added bonus: if there's a problem, it will be reported in that console...

Sometimes due to the mis allocation of files the application gets corrupted..i think their is no other way than to reinstall the application and run it again..

i found when i hit in terminal the command skype

[root@dhcppc5 ~]# skype

/opt/skype/skype: error while loading shared libraries: libtiff.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

now what could be the reliable solution for this.

Dot worry, nobody gets angry (quickly) here...and definetly not over a question
Okay, well, I'd look into the menu somewhere, possibly under accessories. It's a black little rectangle

This worries me a bit...are you working as root...all the time? If so, please dont, it compromises the security. Set up a "regular" user and use that account to work...just a side note...

But, by the way, there seems to be an article on skype as well...and this one seems pretty good as well...

Okay, well, there is a reason for this, maybe a re-install seems in order, this time, from the console. I suspect you're pretty new with Linux. You'll learn to like the console (believe me) because it gives a lot more feedback. Say, a program fails. In Linux, you're supposed to be able to start every program from the console as well. Type the name of your program, and poof, instant messages...

Let's play with the re-install...

I'll keep this thread on the scope...

RHEL 6, and therefore Centos 6, are actually based on relatively old versions of Linux, Fedora 12 and 13, and contain libtiff version 3, not the version 4 that Skype requires, and that's just the tip of the iceberg, as they say. Getting the current version of Skype to run on RHEL 6 and clones is not a simple task.

If you go to the Mac & Linux Support Forum on community.skype.com you will find several threads on the topic. Here is a link to one message with links to RPMs said to work on Centos 6.
