Latitude E4200 - dmidecode --type 16 --type 17 maximum RAM

Hi,

looking on purchasing more RAM memory for my E4200
and all websites supplying RAM for my type of laptop
advise that it is only capable of taking 4GB in that
1 bank it has got plus 1GB which is on board, but
when looking at sudo dmidecode --type 16 it says:
Maximum Capacity: 8 GB

sudo dmidecode --type 16 --type 17
# dmidecode 2.11
SMBIOS 2.4 present.

Handle 0x1000, DMI type 16, 15 bytes

So looking at PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM SODIMM 204pin memory, it is only sold
in 4GB and 8GB sizes, noting between, if it says Maximum Capacity: 8 GB,
does the figure includes the 1GB on board RAM as well so I would ideally need 7GB RAM,
or is it 8GB max in the memory bank?

Has anyone tried 8GB RAM, or will it work?

Hi,

According to the E4200 user guide:

See: http://www.levnapc.cz/ProductsFiles/...fikace2-cz.pdf Page 47

You have 1Gb on-board plus one slot which will accept a 4Gb DIMM max, so even though it looks like it's able to address 8Gb you are hardware limited to 5Gb.

>sigh< Tough luck man! :(

Play Bonny!
