laptop issues

Problem: I have a laptop with no CD or network card. I do not wish to run windows on this laptop anymore.

Assuming that I will not be buying more hardware for my outdated laptop, how exactly would I go about installing linux?

I REALLY need help with this, but please understand the extent of my question: I don't know which distribution to use, where to get it, how to divide it among the (presumably) many many floppy disks this process will take, or how to install it once I get it there.

Please go and read the Installation-HOWTO for a basic overview first - in fact, most questions you will have pertaining to linux will have already been answered in the HOWTO's - all available from The Linux Documentation Project. Use forums and mailing lists only when you have a specific question to ask, else it won't be answered so readily.

You'd do well to read - a primer on asking technical questions (by the same author as above, incidentally).

Good Luck.

Always check the hardware compatablity lists, especially the modem. Almost all laptops come with winmodems, ugh! You can also checkout this site:
