LAN to USB adapter: works on linux debian?

Hi all,

Will an ethernet LAN-to-USB adapter work on linux debian out of the box or are there major issues (like recompiling the kernel and similar monstrosities)?

For example:
http://www.amazon.com/USB-Ethernet-N.../dp/B000TUMBMQ

Thanks,
Mike.

All of those cheap Ethernet to USB adapters are based on some variation of the Pegasus chipset, which is supported out of the box on any modern OS.

Thanks. So how will this show up on debian? as a standard eth0 connection (and which accepts the usual eth0 options in /etc/network/interfaces)?.

It may or may not show up as eth0. Ifconfig would help after boot.

Just wanted to point out not to assume it would be exactly eth0. It may be a different number or name.

The use is the same.
