i can not connect to the internet

what configuration should i do to enable the connection?

I found some posts saying that the driver 3c2000 should be installed.
I download one with just a few hundred k.

WHAT????
I am sorry, but I read the post 5 times and I could not figure out what you're talking about....
Anyway, here's some general info.
Mandrake expects to be "networked" so when you do the install, make sure you're already connected to the internet.
When I installed I was behind a router (Linksys-Network everywhere) but I did not have to do anything: Mandrake9,2 recognised the connection and I was on the net immediately.
Try to post again and please take the time to form complete sentences... :-)
Thanks.

In Mandrake Control Centre you should find a button to configure the LAN or networking or such. Usually, on a LAN, you will select DHCP configuration and you computer asks a server on the LAN for the desired information. It should be fairly automatic. If you ever had your system running on DSL or cable, the settings should be similar. If you cannot get it to work quickly, ask someone who is able to connect, what are their settings.

thanks for your patience. Let me retell the story : )

I got the new pc last month assembled with the following components:
CPU-Pentium IV 2.8c
MB-ASUS P4C800 (with onboard lan 3com 3c940)
HDD-WD SATA 120G

I initially tried to installed RedHat 9 but failed to recognize the disk.
After checking the Internet, I think Mandrake 9.2 could work under SATA.
so, I installed Mandrake 9.2 after winXP.

I am currently in university. with xp, i do the following configuration to connect to the Internet:
Tools -> Internet options -> Connections -> LAN settings -> fill the address

when I come to Mandrake for the first time, I just chose to configure the proxy setting manually under one of the browser setting.
1) if i use automatic, it said the page (i entered the URL) can't be found or does not exist.
2) if i manualy set it, it told me that the proxy set by be can't be found.

so, i dont know what to do to get it through with Mandrake 9.2 for Internet Connection.

Boot up, log in, find the Mandrake Control Center in the menu.
Here is the documentation:
http://doc.mandrakelinux.com/Mandrak...onnection.html

You can set up your LAN connection. If your service provider gives you a fixed IP address and the address of a gateway, you can fill that in. It is not a great deal different from what you do in that other OS. There are two levels: setting up the Ethernet interface and the proxy settings for browsing, if any. It sounds like your Ethernet connection is not running so you cannot connect to the proxy server. Poke around in MDK Control Centre before you fire up your browser. When Mandrake says your interface is up and you are connected to the LAN, then go to the browser and enter proxy settings if required.
