Well, it will be much simpler to wait for Ubuntu to put a .deb in their repository to fix this. Since there are a lot of these NICs out there, I suspect the fix will be coming down pretty quickly. I'd keep an eye on the bug reports and see when the developers get it fixed. If it is a kernel issue, the Ubuntu folks will be relying on a kernel patch from upstream that they can get into their package. If the kernel update has been released, it should be showing up on Ubuntu pretty quickly.

There's no need to do a reinstall if you still have the previous kernel. Check kernel options in your grub menu when you boot up. Boot any kernel before this version 2.6.27-11 and the ethernet port should work again.
