kvm switch and GRUB
 

I recently obtained a kvm switch so I could use one monitor for two side-by-side machines. When I am on my non-Linux (XP only) box and I turn on my other computer, I get a GRUB error, and the boot process goes no further. When the view is switched to the watch the boot-up process on my XP/Red Hat machine, no GRUB error occurs. I assume, therefore, that it is looking for the functioning monitor device native to the machine Linux is booting on. Any thoughts?

I got a KVM as well for my computers....I have learned that you turn em on one at a time. Once one is fully boot up, you can turn on the other. One time when I was installing RH (or some other distro I can't remember) I was switching between the probing for devices part. It couldn't find my monitor for some reason. :tisk: :o :D

What brand/model did you get? Even if I try that, I get an error message when switching to the LInux machine saying "cannot display video mode", and the settings are 1024x768 and everything else within range. I gave up and sold my KVM switch.

glyndwr, I have a Belkin, which I picked up at Staples for around $70. It can only support 2 machines. Switching is no problem, as long as both operating systems are up all of the way. I also noticed that when I boot my XP machine while I'm switched to the Linux machine, XP does not load the monitor driver for my hpmx75. If I switch to that machine and it has loaded only the "default" driver monitor, the refresh rate is significantly lower.
