Angry kubuntu open office

I am having a really difficult time with the latest version of kubuntu-
1) I am not able to get open office to work anymore- and consequently cannot open any of my files.
2) I have an open office document recovery dialogue box open all the time- even after I re-started the computer- and I cant close it.

I am not very tech savvy, but I need to access my work files. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

You do not say which version of Kubuntu you are using.

You could try downloading OpenOffice 3 from the PPA. If you are using Intrepid or Hardy than add the repositories as shown at http://ubuntu-snippets.blogspot.com/...iceorg-30.html

It was 8.1. I just got rid of the whole thing and went back to 8.04. My life is much better. Thanks.

For those who dont revert, try this
Code:
sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org
sudo apt-get purge openoffice.org
sudo shutdown now
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org
