when i turn on my computer.. before the login box appears.. when the the word "kubuntu" is on the screen with the 5 dots underneath it.. it just freezes, stalls, hangs.. or whatever term you choose to use.. is there a fix for this?

Hello,

Are you able to boot into single user mode at all without an X server being loaded? Seems like something is messed up either with your GUI, or you are having a (possible) kernel problem. Have you tried running a previous kernel just to rule it out?

Cheers,

Josh

do you have more than 1 hard drive and the updated boot loader (was the grub/bootloader what ever its really called) changed and written to the mbr of the other hard drive or as sugusted the xserver damaged boot up in safemode comand prompt and try XFdrake

Grub is a bootloader by itself, along with LILO. But if the bootloader was the problem, then the OP would never get to the step he is currently at, since the bootloader loads the linux kernel before hand. Therefore - This is definitely not a bootloader problem. If it would be that low-end of a problem, then it would be at least the kernel that is being loaded.

same problem

I'm having the same problem. After a bunch of updates installed I rebooted and it hangs before the login screen.

How can I change it back to gnome or fix kde so I can login?

Hello,

Please don't dig up older threads. Besides, your problem may be different, and you just don't know it. If your issues are still persisting, please search the forums and online first, and if you still need assistance, then by all means start a new thread. Thank you for understanding.

Cheers,

Josh
