You might have a memory failure. You might boot memtest and let it check.

Getting lots of segfaults from normal utilities/system is a sign.

iv got 6 ditros installed on this system now & windows 7 , none of them have this problem (although they all have problems of their own Except windows)

This disto was working fine until i tried to use the network monitor plasmoid , now network monitor has no icon in the "ad widgets" list, is that anything to do with it because it crashes when i have the add widgets side bar open for a few seconds ? its always when i try to do something with the widgets side bar.

thx.

It can still be a memory fault.

Linux uses all of the physical memory it has access to. "Free" memory is used for buffers to reduce disk I/O and improve time.

Windows doesn't put the same pressure on memory - and thus may avoid the bad spot. How the fault shows up depends on what the memory is being used for. When it is used for programs, a segmentation fault is frequently seen. Other times, a program may just not perform properly (looking like a program bug).

looks like i was wrong , its only when im using the widgets sidebar. 100 present repeatable , if i open the add widgets sidebar then wait 10 seconds it crashes every time.

have not seen it do it anywhere else except if i have had the widget sidebar open a few seconds ago i.e. even if i close the widget sidebar and then do something else it still crashes about 10 secs after i opened it .

Hi...

By any chance, can you find the name of the package this program is called? The program may or may not have an additional package that offers debug symbols in Synaptic (or the package manager that is included with Kubuntu.)

Regards...

Hi...

I've filed a bug with Ubuntu in the past as was never asked to provide a debug report. Is the "Apport" tool requiring this information? If so, you can bypass this method and file a bug report directly here.

Regards...

ok thx, i appreciate the help but i just wanted to learn about linux but i have not been able to start as iv just had problem after problem and therefore i feel i do not yet have the knowledge to answer questions properly or have a clue what they are talking about.

I was just hoping there was a simple fix for this. I shall just install something else maybe the lts version.

p.s. yea it seems to be requiring this info as the button is grayed out , it says i dont have any useful info , but im not sure.

thx.
