Kopete through a socks proxy

Hey, i've been told that to get kopete to work with the socks proxy server here at uni i have to congfigure it in kde under the kde->network options->proxy->socks option but when i go here and click the option to enable socks support then click test i get the error "SOCKS could not be loaded" . Its the same whether i pick auto detect, NEC socks or dante.

Any ideas?
