Konqueror won't surf web after in stalling Mozilla

After I installed mozilla 1.6 to try it out it asked me about profiles and I didn't know what I was doing and deleted one. Now when I try to open a web page or html document with Konqeror I get:

"Open 'http://www.kde.org/' using 'Konqueror Web Browser'?"

I select open and then get:

"There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with text/html, but it can't handle this file type."

I have checked the file associations under the configuration menu and everything looks right. Uner the html general tab Konqueror Web Browser is listed first, and under embedding KHTML is listed first.

Can someone help please?

MM

looks like you deleted your webbrowsing profile.

try this command:

konqueror about:blank

then type in some url in the address bar like http://www.google.com

if that works, then try to save a new webbrowsing profile. don't know if any of this will really work for you, but anyway, good luck.

I found something else Konqueror won't do now that worked before I installed mozilla

I copied to my home directory a folder in windows that I was using to develop some web pages. Now when I try to open that directory in my home directory I get:

There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with inode/directory, but it can't handle this file type.

but, if I already have another copy of Konqueror open to my home directory it will open the copied folder. It will also open the folder if I right click it and select "open in new window" That is also the only way I can get conqueror to open html files, otherwise I get the error in my first post.

Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaase help!

MM

Is there anyway to reinstall konqueror so it will fix whatever went wrong?

I had exactly the same problem.

I solved it by changing file association setting in:

"KDE control center" -> "KDE components" -> "File Associations" -> "inode" -> "directory" -> "Embedding" tab

Here move "Tree View (konq_treeview)" to the top of the "Services preference order" area and select "Show file in embedded viewer" radio button in "Left click action area".

It works with this setting for me.

Cheers,
Martin

Mandrake cooker for some reason has modified my settings to use an external viewer for this file type too. Thanks for the tip Martin
