Konqueror log on as Root -

Debian Etch
KDE
Konqueror

An upgrade redacted part of my grub/boot menu and I can't access my XP that is chainloaded on secondary/slave disk.

My understanding is that I need to use kedit to restore the text to what I have on the backup. Problem is, I don't seem to be able to save the changes using kedit. I need to log on as root in Konqueror (Xterm?).

I tried [kdesu kedit /boot/grub/menu.lst] but that doesn't do it.

I have done the searches for similar queries. Either the clue is missing or I am missing a clue (or two). Probably the latter.

Just why doesn't "kdesu kedit" do it? What happens when you try to run it?

And you don't need to use kedit for this. What you really need to do is learn how to use a cli text editor. I usually use nano myself; it's light, easy to use, and available standard on almost all systems. Or if you really want to get serious, you should learn how to use vi (vim).

Just su into a root terminal and run "nano /boot/grub/menu.1st". There's a handy help menu that should tell you how to use it from there.
