To the best of my knowledge, I believe konqueror is Kde specific.

Konqueror will work in other environments as well as its native KDE. You can't install Konqueror the browser only, you will need to install qt, kdelibs and kdebase.

If you have KDE installed (or the minimum base at least), then you can run konqueror from any WM. There really shouldn't be much of a difference in the way it runs.
The only advantage I can think of (for running konqueror inside KDE) is the excellent integration of the entire KDE suite. Once I open Konqueror, I also end up using stuff like Kpdf, Kget, Ktorrent, that nice password manager, aKregator, and a few others. So while I used to run konqueror inside Ion3 before, I just ended up switching to KDE completely :)
But if you really like your current WM you'll be perfectly fine just running konqi from there. Install the minimum reqd packages that reddazz mentioned and you should be fine.
