Konqueror File manager device view setup

I am trying to find info on setting up Konqueror under KDE 3.2 in different views under Mepis which as far as I can tell is just the standard Konqueror.
On the left pane there is a list of different views from root to network.
The view i use for file management by default is "Devices"
I have my system setup with a few shaers across the network one of them a windows PC.
my left pane looks like this

Devices
CD Rom
Floppy
Hard Disc (hda1) [/mnt/hda1]
Hard Disc (hda2) [/mnt/hda2]
Hard Disc (hda5) [/]
Remote Share (C) [home/shane/mnt/AMD/C]

and a few more remote shares

I have been trying to rename these to something with shorter names..
for instance I have made some Links on the desktop just called Mepis Drive, Fat32 drive and for the shares C on AMD

any ideas on how we can change this in Konqueror at all under Devices.

even the removal of the first section of the name (eg hard Disc or Remote Share) would be great as some of my share names when displayed like this take up half the width of the page !!!
