Hey everyone - I'm fairly new to Linux; I've experimented before, but now I'm ready to really sink my teeth in, but I need a little help.
I just got KNOPPIX-STD. Knoppix-std allows me to run Linux of a CD, no installation =). It's actually great for a beginner; however, I have a problem with the internet.... I can't connect.
I have a cable modem, and a DLink DI-614+ router. I did some research, and built into KNOPPIX-STD is something called netcard config which is suppose to set up my internet properly; however, it failed to do so.
I then took a look at my /etc/network/interfaces. Because KNOPPIX-STD is run off a cd, all the system files are on the cd, and can only be edited before the ISO is burned. As I looked through the /etc/network/interfaces I found some errors.
So here's the question. For my IP address should I give my local ip? (192.168.0.100). It also said something like network IP and the IP Address was 192.168.0.0 - However, to access my router I use 192.168.0.1. So tell me if the below would be the correct info.
IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Lan Address/Network IP?: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 220.127.116.11
DNS: 18.104.22.168 & 22.214.171.124
---If anything in here seems odd, please point it out to me
Now, I need to know if that info seems correct. If so, how do I edit an ISO to add that in? Also, in /etc/network/interfaces there is nothing for DNS??? Any suggestions? I'm just trying to get it right this time because I've already wasted 2 CD-Rs =x. Thanks a lot, I truly apreciate any assistance you can provide.
