knoppix on h/d and core 2
 

is there a way to doul boot knoppix on the h/d with winxp

i have knoppix 3.2

and how do you save files when the live cd is booted like html


and is knoppix 3.5 any better i have 3.2


and i got somthing to aks about redhat core 2

some one tald me that there is 260 updates out fot it
is this ture :confused:

and is safe to doul boot it with winxp

is it safe to even use :confused:

i will take knoppix off when im done :rolleyes:

I've got your e-mail, thanks ;). Well, to install Knoppix into the HD, take a look here:

You should be able to save anything to the HD with the Live disk as long as you have you windows partitions mounted and that it's in FAT32.
There's always a risk when playing around with partitions and boot loaders. I never had any problems with Linux (the same could not be said about FreeBSD though).

The new version of Knoppix seems better. It comes with a newer kernel, thus support for writing into NTFS. It also can boot from some (not many) USB-CDRoms. It's not the same stable (yet) nor is 2.6.x kernel series (yet). The rest, is not much different: If you have Knoppix installed, it means that you have Debian... so just apt-get <whatever your need> and you get the newest version. E.g:

apt-get upgrade gaim

and that will install/upgrade to the newest gaim.

About Fedora and the updates, it's possible. When you run update in Linux, it will update _all_ the programs, since a small one as Midnight Commander up to security programs. I'd recommend you upgrading _only_ the security programs and say, upgrade XChat, if you need a new function present only in a newer version ;).
