KNOPPIX INSTALL Kernel error
Hi all.
I'm hoping somebody can nudge me in the right direction. I have 2 hard drives - one internal (Windows) and one external USB (Linux - hopefully). I have installed KNOPPIX onto the external drive and GRUB onto the MBR (drive 1) and a floppy disk. I can boot into Windows - no problem - but cannot get Knoppix to work. I have used GRUB at the command line and here is what I have:- ROOT (HD1,0) - this is the root partition of my USB drive - this works! KERNEL /BOOT/VMLINUZ-2.6.11 ROOT=/DEV/UBA1 BOOT When I run this, it starts to run the Kernel (which means it's found it at least) and then kicks out an error message and hangs (see below):- VFS: Cannot open root device 'uba1' ...or unknown block (0,0) I understand that this message relates to the fact it can't find the /DEV/UBA1 path. Questions: 1) Can I use a USB device? - it found it for the GRUB root command 2) What files should I have and what should be recorded in them? 3) Is it possible to set up the /dev devices in grub? Many thanks and jope in advance. Alan. |
