Knoppix Help (Kernel Panic Error)
Burned the ISO... restarted comp... hit enter at boot screen.. shows 2 little penguins.. then it shows
"Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,3)" Any suggestions-ideas? Chad |
I usually deal with Knoppix from the cd; not an installed version. Does Knoppix (installed) offer you a boot prompt to give boot parameters? If so, do you remember the partition you installed into? If so, add this to the boot prompt: root=/dev/hdxy, where x is the disk letter, and y is the partition number. Something like: root=/dev/hda1.
Might also be a good idea to google up a copy of Knoppix Cheatcodes, to get an idea of what to enter at the boot prompt instead of just hitting <enter>. |

Either the iso was corrupted, the disc wasn't burned properly, or it's a hardware issue. You can check if the disc is the problem with "knoppix testcd" at the "boot:" prompt. If there's no error in the CD, check out the cheatcodes, which (at least on my 4.0 DVD version) are in D:\KNOPPIX\knoppix-cheatcodes.txt |
