Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

i have a 280 nvidia card and i installed the kmod using the follwing commands:
rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-9.rpm
rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-livna
yum install kmod-nvidia
it was installed successfully, but the problem is when i do a reboot the X server wont start. this was working b4 until ive change my vid card to 280, my previous card was 8800 gt. is this a prob with the kmod-nvidia? i also tried using the driver from the nvidia site, but i encountered problems everytime i enable the desktop effect. i tried the yum update but the driver from the nvidia site keeps saying that "make sure the kernel-devel is installed" but iv already installed it using yum. whats wrong here?
I just installed my nvidia driver for a GeForce 7300 GS in Fedora 9. I had to activate or enable it by running as root this; nvidia-xconfig , so with either su - in a terminal, or logged in run level 3 in the text mode.
already done the nvidia-xconfig, same problem. the driver from the nvidia site works well except for the desktop effect problem. maybe my kernel-devel is not for my current kernel. ill just test some more
