KMail crashes repeatedly with SIGSEGV ..

Ok, I really am trying to make the switch to Linux, but this is almost driving back to Windows ....

I partioned my HD (I left WinMe on for now) and installed RH7.2 with no problems.

I started using the KDE interface because I liked it a little bit better than GNOME.

After I got KMail all set up and my old OE5 folders importred and half my contacts set up, it worked fine for a while, then started crashing without any warning and I would get the SIGSEGV message box implying there may be an error with the program. At the same time I could no longer open Konqueror or the Help files from the panle icons. I tried rebootin, logging in and out with no luck.

I switched to the GNOME interface and things were better, but I don't care for Balsa, so I still tried using KMail. It worked for a while, but now it is back to its old tricks of crashing.

I have intentionally not made any changes to what was installed in order to bringing problems like this on myself. Not saying I didn't but....

I have 192 meg of memory and 384 meg swap file and still plenty of free disk space in my Linux partition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there is a better email client let me know that as well.

It might have something to with your version, but I often find that if an application is constantly crashing, then deleting its hidden rc file will sometimes fix the problem. This is not a good solution, but one that occasionally works. 'rm -r .kmail'.. might help. I never noticed any bugs with the program myself (but it is waaay too slow now that I am used to Spruce). You might want to check the website for bugs or even go to an earlier release if RH 7.2 happened to include a bad version.

What version of KDE does RH7.2 have?
The latest is 2.2.1 so it might be better to download the rpm's for that instead.

Well, here is a bit of an update, FWIW....

KMail works fine when I log in as root. Some other things that were flaky when I was logged in with mt user id are also fine when logged in as root. To me this indicates somehting I did caused the problem(s) - frankly, I don't know what it could be unless KDE didn't like me trying out the GNOME desktop :-)

I have created a new user id and so far things are fine with KMail.
Thanks for everyone's help...
