KlamAV found 24 virus's...... Help!!

I have been using Ubuntu 9.1 for a few weeks now and I love it!! However, I have been having a few problems. My mouse keeps having a mind of it's own and flying around the screen, when I go to click on a drop down menu on an Internet page I have to click several times before it will drop down, sometimes the page I am on will just disappear and there are other niggly problems that don't spring to mind.

Anyway, I decided that I would see if it is a virus and installed KlamAV 0.46. It has found 24 virus's and now I don't know what to do????? I tried to quarantine them when it asked me but it had a problem with every single one and wouldn't do that.

So basically I am very stuck lol and any help would be very, very much appreciated :)

You got 24 seperate viruses in a few weeks on Ubuntu? I don't think I've had that many ever regardless of OS and I rarely ran antivirus on windows even. I would wonder about those results and do a little research on the specific issues clamav reported as they just seem improbable to me.

Totally agree. Maybe they are false positive. There are a lot of these issues reported on the Ubuntu forums. If in doubt, please post a list of these alleged viruses... maybe someone here can shed some light.

It seems strange that you got 24 viruses in a few weeks, especially in on Linux, which is so virus-free that you don't even really need AV software for it.

But I heard that using WINE can let Windows viruses run on Linux.

It's possible that the OP has downloaded a pile of Viruses, or had them in emails. Naturally they probably won't run on Linux (unless Wine/Virtual Box et al are able to access them) but none the less the CLAM engine will identify them.

Can you tell us if you have a firewall - either software or hardware? From your description of your problem, it almost sounds as if someone has rooted your machine and is controlling it remotely. Have you run either chkrootkit or rkhunter? We'd need a lot more information, and you'll probably want to consider moving your post to the Security forum.
