Kingston USB U3 Data Traveler NOT useable Linux

I have a 2G USB flash drive that I used to store data during my Windows days. When I plug in my Ubuntu machine, all I see is 3 files: Autorun.inf, LaunchPad.zip, and LaunchU3.exe in the file Browser. Clicking on the exe file does nothing.

I still have my Windows machine to retrieve my files, but the question is how can I make use of the flash drive to Linux?

Thank you.

I don't want a Linux bootable USB.

I just want to use it as a 2G storage device.

The Kingston U3 properties:

location /media
free space 0 bytes
filesystem type isofs

Thanks.

All of the U3 stuff i.e launchpad and all the apps only works with windows.

The drive will actually appear as two devices. The first will look like a CDROM and contains those files you posted. The 2nd will be the flash part where you can save files. If the flash part is not auto mounting then you should be able to mount it manually.

AFAIK, this system allows to launch automatically a lot of programs stored inside the U3 system.
Take a look at this thread

To reformat the USB for use in windows and linux.

Please backup the data on the USB first.

Problem solved!

On Windows machine:
1. Download U3Uninstall.exe
2. Save files before formatting USB drive
3. Format USB drive by running U3Uninstall.exe
4. Properties shows filesystem type FAT32

On Linux machine: device is automatically mounted and recognized: df -h
/dev/sdb1 2.0G 4.7M 2.0G 1% /media/KINGSTON U3
Properties shows filesystem type msdos

Thanks!
